Student Athletes Sign to Extend Sports Careers

Eight McDowell student-athletes signed to further their playing time in college on National Letter of Intent Signing Day at McDowell High School on Feb. 1.
Two of the signees came from the Lady Trojans soccer team. Emma Manczka, mid-field, committed to Gannon University. Manczka is a four-year varsity letterwinner and a three-year varsity starter. She was a part of the Region 6 Second Team in 2014 and 2015, then the First Team in 2016. Her McDowell team voted her MVP in the 2016 season, when she was also a co-captain. Manczka led the team to two straight PIAA playoff berths and was a 2013 Region 6 champion and 2016 Region 6 co-champion. Besides athletics, she is also a part of McDowell High School’s Honors College and National Honor Society.
Soccer forward Cameron Bujnoski will attend Edinboro University of Pennsylvania in the fall. Bujnoski is a four-year varsity letterwinner and three-year varsity starter. Bujnoski was part of the Region 6 First Team in 2015 and 2016. Bujnoski was Region 6’s Player of the Year and a part of the 2016 All-District 10 Team. She was a co-captain and led the team to two straight PIAA playoff berths. Bujnoski was also a 2013 Region 6 Champion and 2016 co-Champion
The remainder of the signees were from the McDowell football team. Levi Becker, quarterback, was offered a scholarship from Ohio Dominican University. Becker has been a team captain for 2015 and continued in 2016. Some of Levi’s stats include 2015 All-Region, 2015 All-Western PA, and 2016 ESPN Elite 11. Becker holds McDowell’s season and career records for yards, completions and touchdowns.
Jake Cervik, tight end and wide receiver, was offered a scholarship from Edinboro University. Cervik ranks 4 in School History with 50 Career Receptions. The following stats in 2015 for Cervik include All-Region, All-District, and All-Western PA. In 2016, he was a part of All-Region and All-Western PA.
Carson Picheco, defensive tackle and center, was offered a scholarship from California University of Pennsylvania. He was one of the team captain’s of his team in 2016. Some other of Picheco’s stats include 2015-2016 All-Region, 2016 All-District, and 2016 All-Western PA.
Dylan Piendel, tight end and outside linebacker, was offered a scholarship from Mercyhurst University. Piendel is a two-year starter and through all his years playing, he has had 140 career tackles.
Trevor Simpson, offensive guard and tackle, was offered a scholarship from Alderson Broaddus University. Simpson was also a team captain in 2016. He is a two-year starter and was part of the 2016 All-Region.
Bryon Williams, wide receiver and strong safety, was offered a scholarship from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. This was Williams’ first year on McDowell’s football team. In his first year, he accomplished 118 tackles and eight sacks. Some of his stats include All-Region, All-District, All-Western PA, and All-State all in the year of 2016.
